Associate Financial Planner

As an Associate Financial Planner, you will play a vital role in supporting a Financial Planner within a pod structure. Your primary responsibilities will include attending client meetings (depending on service level), documenting meeting discussions and conducting technical research analysis. You will also be responsible for producing suitability reports based on client needs and financial goals. You will work with all Associate Financial Planners to ensure that collectively all work is completed within agreed timescales.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversight of pod tasks and workflow.
  • Collaborate with the lead planner to complete pre-meeting preparations, including gathering and analysing client financial data, reviewing investment portfolios, and conducting research on relevant financial planning topics.
  • Attend client meetings alongside the lead planner, actively participating and assisting in running designated elements of the meetings.
  • Document meeting notes accurately and thoroughly, capturing key discussions, action items, and client preferences.
  • Conduct technical research analysis on various financial planning topics, such as retirement planning, investment strategies, tax planning, and risk management.
  • Prepare suitability reports based on the lead planner’s recommendations, ensuring compliance with industry regulations and company policies.
  • Collaborate with the lead planner to develop comprehensive financial plans, including investment strategies, retirement planning, estate planning, and insurance coverage.
  • Assist in monitoring client investment portfolios, analysing performance, and making recommendations for portfolio adjustments or rebalancing.
  • Keep abreast of industry trends, regulations, and best practices to ensure the delivery of accurate and up-to-date financial advice to clients.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, ensuring exceptional service and addressing any inquiries or concerns in a timely and professional manner.
  • Adhere to regulatory and compliance guidelines, ensuring all activities are conducted in accordance with industry standards.
Key Skillset
  • Financial Planning Knowledge: Possess a solid understanding of financial planning principles, investment strategies, retirement planning, tax planning, risk management, and estate planning concepts.
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to analyse complex financial data, assess client needs and goals, and develop suitable financial plans and recommendations.
  • Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively communicate financial concepts and recommendations to clients in a clear and concise manner. Active listening skills to understand client needs and address their concerns.
  • Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail to ensure accuracy and precision in financial calculations, documentation, and compliance requirements.
  • Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in using financial planning software and tools, as well as a solid understanding of Microsoft Excel or other spreadsheet applications for financial analysis and modelling.
  • Client Relationship Management: Ability to build and maintain strong client relationships based on trust, empathy, and professionalism. Strong interpersonal skills to interact effectively with clients and understand their financial goals and preferences.
  • Teamwork and Collaboration: Willingness to work collaboratively within a team environment, supporting lead planners and other team members to achieve common goals and provide exceptional client service.

Experience and Qualifications
  • L4 Diploma in Regulated Financial Planning minimum, ideally L6 Chartered (or working towards completion)
  • Experience of working in financial services
  • Demonstrates a good understanding of the financial services profession
  • An awareness of the compliance and regulatory framework
